"Read as much as you can as often as you can. Being a consumer of content early on will help you have the context to be able to think of great ideas and ways to innovate. The awesome thing about finance is that pretty much anyone can learn this business and there are lots of tools that already exist to be able to help you do that. It’s important to stay current because something that happens on one day in one country can drastically impact financial markets around the world"
"In terms of advice with limited capital - I would tell others to get smart about the sectors or areas of interests where they hope to invest their talent and energy. There are plenty of concepts which fall flat when put into actual play. It’s always better to have done your due diligence early, if for nothing else than to be properly confident about the opportunity at hand. Also, I would advise them to double-down on execution. Move with good data but by all means move and move quickly. As I always say - execution is the stuff of success – passion is just one of the ingredients"
"My advice to anyone who has any specific goal that they want to go for is, determine your why and that WHY doesn't have to mean much to anyone else but dig deep for your why. The clarify of purpose will fuel your passion and discipline like nothing else can"
"If you want to get started you need to know the industry inside out. You don’t necessarily have to have a degree in design, but should be familiar with the industry standards, terms and history of the design industry. And of course, you need an eye for space, colour, texture and a passion to bring it all together. Another aspect is to have your own unique style, that you can be associated with"
"Figure out the issues that interest you and learn as much as possible. When you’re well informed, get your voice out into the world on those issues, we need your unique perspective! Write, speak, blog, tweet, whatever it takes to get your voice out into the world"
"Leadership means different things to different people. However, for me…Leadership isn’t a position, it’s a mindset. Leadership is about the people you serve – the culture they keep and embrace, it’s about empathy for your customers, clients, employees and the communities where you do business, being confident enough to take risks and responsible enough to think of those who your decisions and risks may affect"
"Do what you love, and go for it! If you have a business and you’re afraid that you will be judged, just dive right in. I promise you, it will be completely worth it, even if you slip. LPSCon has changed my life, and if I let my fear get to me about what others would think of me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Everyone is super supportive of this event and my toy obsession! I promise you have more allies than you think. Don’t ever ever let fear get in the way of your dreams"
"My favorite thing about my job is the people I work with and help. They have shown me over and over again that this mission is bigger than myself. I am 100% happy with everything I’ve been able to accomplish and happy that I’ve been able to be a source of inspiration to others. This keeps me going when things get rough"
"Have a voice and be assertive. Ask for what you want, usually no one knows that you want something until you are vocal about it. Also, people will respect you if your speak up and voice your opinion versus you conceding with everything. Those are a few pieces of advice I would give someone who wants to pursue a career in the financial services industry"
